No. Help Is Hope does not require background checks for volunteers. Our volunteer program welcomes adults age 18 or older. Your past does not define what you can contribute.
No. You can come with the skills you already have or learn as you go. Orientation helps us find tasks and support that fit.
Volunteer shift start times are 9 AM, 11 AM, and 1 PM, Monday through Friday. Choose how many hours you can give, up to 8 hours in a day. There is no minimum-hour requirement for regular volunteers.
Our in-person headquarters is at 140 Calaveras Ave, Modesto, California. We support adults throughout California. If you live elsewhere and want to volunteer, ask about virtual onboarding and remote opportunities before traveling.
We welcome interest from across California. Some digital, research, and creative volunteer work may be completed remotely. Select “Online / statewide” in the role matcher and ask which openings and onboarding options are available.
Yes. Help Is Hope offers support across all 58 California counties. Modesto is our headquarters. It is not the limit of our service area. In-person volunteer projects depend on location.

Yes. We offer resources before asking you to help others. The same support and services offered to clients are available to volunteers, including help with housing, food, bills, rides, work, and health. You do not have to volunteer to ask for help.
